Mijikenda specializes in the design and hand-made fabrication of unusual distinctive African frames and mirrors, from extraordinary materials to its clients’ individual and exacting requirements.
In consultation with Nicole, clients are able to choose from multiple rare timber varieties to effect and influence their final required design. Finishes can range from Stucco filling, intricate carving, liming, antique ‘cracked’ paint effect, bleaching, gold and bronze powders, beaded or semi-precious stone & brass inlays. Professionally hand cut and colored photo mounts, can be added to enhance the final image and design.
The option of a unique hand carved frame from reclaimed hardwood, reproduced from centuries old original designs, is also available from the Mijikenda team to compliment that ‘special’ piece. Final designs can also include hand carved engravings and symbols (eg: names, dates & star signs) for special occasions, such as weddings, birthdays, anniversaries or the birth of a new baby.
Due to the nature of re-claimed timber and the hand made process used by the Mijikenda team, final products may vary in color and finish from the images seen on this site. This fact, in our humble opinion, only serves to enhance the individuality of the clients order.
